They have wings, but also big hearts! On July 9, 2018, Camp Carowanis campers welcomed five Montreal Alouettes players. Accompanied by the mascot Touché, linebacker Kyle Knox (#50), defensive lineman Vantrel McMillan (#96), running back William Stanback (#31), as well as summer stagiaires Christopher Valentine and defensive back Dayrek Valme of the Chateauguay Raiders (QJFL), created some unforgettable moments for 90 young participants.
Children and organizers treated the players to a special Carowanis-style welcome with flags and cheering. The football initiation training minicamp included five skill stations, obstacle courses, games with the players, and ended with a photo and autograph session. An official helmet, ball, jerseys and caps were handed out during the day, and three children who showed great sportsmanship each received a family pass to an Alouettes home game this season.
The Alouettes organization also took the opportunity to donate an official ball autographed by the whole team. On August 20, 2018, the ball will be up for auction as part of FRED’s 17th Annual Golf-Cycling Classic at the prestigious Vallée du Richelieu Golf Club to raise funds for Camp Carowanis.
A big thank you goes out to the players for participating and Elyssa Porlier, Montreal Alouettes Special Projects Manager and former Carowanis camper, who generously shared her love of life with our children as well as her determination to face diabetes on a daily basis. What a fantastic day!
