Here is a message written by Layla Bakir who will undertake next July a great challenge, but will also materialize a dream and make it a testimony of love to her daughter, Zena Gad el Rab.
Self-giving by walking, pedaling or giving my hair, it’s what I have been doing every year for five years, for causes that are dear to me.
A few weeks ago, I read a statement from the Diabetic Children’s foundation which informed us that a 16 year old (Type 1 diabetic Justin Vézina) was going to climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Foundation and invited us to join him.
This announcement called me since I myself am a mother of a wonderful 15 year-old daughter with type 1 diabetes for 1 year now and I have long been wanting to climb this 5895-meter mountain for a cause that is close to my heart.
Despite my powerlessness over her illness, I can offer her the most beautiful gift of self-sacrifice!
I just realized that the stars have aligned for me to take up this challenge and touch the heart of my daughter by proving that, despite my powerlessness over her illness, I can offer her the most beautiful gift of self-sacrifice!
I will be joining Justin, his sister, his mother and four other people to climb Kilimanjaro from July 24, 2015 to August 12, 2015 in order to raise money to help my daughter and all the other children of the foundation and support the great parents that we are. I will come back on August 12 with a heart full of humility, humanity and love and all thanks to your big heart!
Thank you very much!
